What a year 2020 has been… Talking about positives, me and Oli managed to get MexiBrit going during the first lockdown, the partnership began when in 2019, at the Mexican Christmas Market in London’s Kings Cross, I met Oli to tell him about my idea. I knew he would be the best partner as I admired his work and professionalism, he is a great designer, photographer and web designer.
Oli began working on website ideas while I started to put my vision into perspective. As all my event work dried up and lockdown hit us, we put our heads together and launched MexiBrit. The directory of all things Mexico in the UK. As Mexicans living in the Uk for sooooo long, we wanted to set up something we would’ve loved to see back in the day the day we arrived, somewhere that gave information, news and made our community feel united.
The welcome was overwhelming as small businesses started to trust us from day one, and we saw a surge in entrepreneurs, as people continue to reinvent themselves in the current climate.
We are so proud to have hosted the Cinco de Mayo Festival online, enjoyed a summer with plenty of news articles getting to know notable Mexicans, and as we headed for Independence Day, hosting MexiWeek. As Day of the Dead approached, we curated the small market at the UK Mexican Arts Society’s ofrenda event and helped host a beautiful ofrenda by the mexican Craft Collective at El Pastor, London. Christmas followed with a very successful online Mexican Christmas Market and a 25 long Advent Calendar, showcasing amazing mexican talent and products.
This year we aim to grow bigger to help showcase so many amazing small, and big businesses and keep Mexican culture alive in the UK, more partnerships, more cutting edge ideas and hopefully more ‘real’ events.
Thank you to everyone who made 2020 so special, here is to 2021! Salud.
