Chili Maven: Reclaiming the True Flavours of Mexico
Bringing the bold, rich, and complex flavours of Mexican chillies to kitchens across the UK, Chili Maven is more than just a brand – it’s a movement. Founded by Alexa Fernandez, Chili Maven is dedicated to reclaiming the narrative around Mexican food and educating consumers about its authenticity, history, and depth.
Born from Alexa’s deep love for her roots and her frustration with the oversimplification of Mexican cuisine abroad, Chili Maven is committed to showcasing the real stories behind the flavours. “Mexican food is not just about heat or tacos – it’s about centuries-old techniques, community recipes, and layers of flavour,” she explains.
Crafted in Mexico using traditional and artisanal methods, Chili Maven’s products are the real deal. The latest addition to the range? Mole – one of Mexico’s most iconic and celebratory dishes. In partnership with Linda and her family in Mexico, Chili Maven has launched three mole varieties based on recipes passed down through generations.
Linda’s family has been making mole for over 50 years, faithfully preserving her grandmother’s original techniques. Now, thanks to Chili Maven, those rich flavours are available in the UK in an easy-to-use powder form, perfect for home cooks.
The mole collection includes:
Adobo – sweet, savoury, and smoky
Pipián Rojo – nutty and spicy
Almendrado – sweet with a kick of heat
Just mix with water or broth to create a delicious sauce for chicken, rice, tacos, enmoladas, or even as a bold, unexpected gravy for your Sunday roast.

Alexa Fernandez lives in London and is proud to be a part of the city’s vibrant and diverse food scene. “What I love most about London is its diversity! It’s a cultural melting pot, and that richness is reflected in the food. You can travel around the world via London’s restaurants,” she says.
When asked about her favourite taco spot in the UK, Alexa doesn’t hesitate: “You’re really going to make me choose? Honestly, the best tacos come from Mexican-owned taquerías – you can taste the fire and flavour of Mexico. I even made a Google Maps list of all my favourites!”
For Alexa, being Mexican in 2025 is about honouring tradition while challenging stereotypes. “It means embracing my heritage while rewriting the narrative. It’s about celebrating the richness of our culture and making space for stories that honour our roots – especially through food.”
But while her brand is thriving and her mission is clear, there are still moments of homesickness. “What I miss the most? Family and community, without a doubt. I miss our spontaneous, loud, lively, and very large gatherings!”
You can shop Chili Maven’s new mole range now – and keep an eye out for more flavour-packed releases this spring.
