Tacover 2023: highlights and the best tacos in London

The Tacover London’s only taco festival took place last weekend May 6th-7th at the Signature Brew in London. This event was sponsored by Mexican popular drink Jarritos and many taco vendors in a family-friendly entertainment environment, and more than 2000 people attended.

Here you have some of the highlights of the Tacover 2023 in London.

Tacos friendly to all types of dietary restrictions

Something good about tacos is that they are for everyone. At Tacover 2023, we saw tacos featured plenty of vegan, gluten-free, and even halal tacos by Birria Taco. This taqueria has a Muslim owner from Pakistan who learned how to make birria during the pandemic with Youtube videos. He makes these halal birria tacos filled with marinated pulled King Oyster Mushrooms cooked in authentic Mexican salsa, herbs, and spices. So delicious!

Authentic Mexican street food tacos

There are no authentic street food tacos without a big “trompo al pastor” right? Taco al pastor is a popular taco of meat cooked on a vertical grill with adobo, and is one of the most traditional tacos in Mexico City. Carne Street Food captured the essence of Mexican street food over the two days of the festival with this beautiful ‘trompo’ that certainly didn’t last long.

Tacos are Mexican, no matter who makes it!

Mexican food has never been more popular in London, more and more taquerias are popping up all around the city, and Tacover brought together the best ones. Since everyone loves tacos, everyone wants to make tacos, but who makes them well? In London, some people are trying to make this Mexican dish, and not everybody is Mexican.

Yes, tacos are Mexican, but not only Mexicans can make them. We’re happy to meet non-Mexican people making good tacos in London, such as Taca or the female taco –as we like to name it– but originally, the name is a combination of two words: “Taco” and “California” where the owner’s family lives.

We are so proud of our Mexican friends who participated in this Tacover 2023, such as Homies on Donkeys, one the first taquerias in London that have formed their reputation thanks to their taste and their original style. Tigre tacos with the best variety of fish and veggie tacos, Proper Tacos with the best attitude, and their delicious handmade corn tortillas, and Mexclub.uk with the best team from Mexico City.
