Two years ago, after a trip back home to see her family, Dory took the opportunity to visit the southern states of Mexico where her appreciation of the colourful and varied skills of the crafts people in the region gave her the idea to support those artisan communities by bringing the stunning arts and crafts to the UK. WaxacaMx was born and she now sells her products in stores around the UK as well as her very own Etsy shop. She sells super colourful clothing, accessories, home decor and of course face-masks made by herself and also made in Mexico.
When the pandemic hit, she quickly started using her Mexican fabrics to create funky face-masks, and this week, the The PopUpClub nominated Dory to the Independent Awards for making more than 1000 masks herself, she has been the best selling trader at their shop in Chelmsford, Essex. Impressive right?
Dory: ‘I think for everyone this 2020 has been very different, me & my husband love travelling & each year we used visit new places and enjoying new adventures.
These past few months we have been focusing on our project instead and this time it’s WaxacaMx’s journey we’re enjoying.
In @waxacamx we get inspired & innovate with our new products as we offer a diverse range of items, from handmade table cloths to napkins and bread trays to mercado net bags, hand painted Alebrijes & our latest addition of bead accessories with the iconic Frida Khalo Style.
WaxacaMx has just taken part in a SupportLocalPopup project in Kent which has been amazing & we are also participating in a similar project in Brighton where we will be amongst other independent sellers in the well known Dukes Lane area offering our handmade products from Nov 18th until Xmas🎄 ‘
